Zucker Hillside Hospital is a 223-bed psychiatric facility known for its pioneering work in diagnosis, treatment and research of mental illness. The National Institute of Mental Health has established a Clinical Research Center for the Study of Schizophrenia at Hillside, one of only four such facilities nationwide.
The hospital’s patient residents live in cottages and two-story buildings on a campus, which offers athletic facilities and a fully accredited grade school and high school. The inpatient services include those for general psychiatry, schizophrenia, affective disorders, geriatric, child and adolescent services, mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
There are outpatient services for all ages and both partial hospital or continuing day treatment programs. There is a program for chemical abusers and a special Center for Neuropsychiatric Outcomes and Rehabilitation. The hospital also uses the very latest virtual reality software to treat various phobic disorders, including fear of flying and heights. |
